How to cancel Videotron internet — 5 steps
Cancelling leaves you without internet until a new provider is connected. Line up your replacement before you call Videotron — most providers ship a modem in 3–5 business days. Confirm the new connection works, then cancel.
-
Check your Videotron contract status
Log in to videotron.com → My Account → Services to see if you're in a 2-year promotional contract. If yes, calculate remaining months × $15–20 for the estimated cancellation fee. If the promo period has expired, you're month-to-month and can cancel free.
-
Call Videotron: 1-888-433-6876
Best time: weekday mornings. Have your account number ready. State clearly that you want to cancel internet. Use this script if needed:
"I'd like to cancel my Videotron internet service. I've already set up a new provider. Please cancel effective [your date]. Can I get a confirmation number?" -
Handle the retention pitch
Videotron will typically offer a temporary discount (e.g. $20–30 off for 6 months). These offers expire and often extend your contract. Decline politely and repeat your cancellation request. You don't need to explain or justify your decision.
-
Get a cancellation confirmation number
Before ending the call, ask for a cancellation confirmation number and your exact effective cancellation date. Write both down — this is your proof if billing continues.
-
Return Videotron equipment
Return the rented modem and router to any Videotron retail location within 30 days. Keep your return receipt — non-return charges are $150–$300 per device.
Videotron cancellation fees
| Your situation | Cancellation fee | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Month-to-month (promo expired) | $0 | Cancel anytime |
| Within 2-year contract, <4 months left | $60–$80 | Switch now, save $30+/mo ongoing |
| Within 2-year contract, 4–12 months left | $80–$240 | Calculate break-even vs monthly savings |
| Non-returned equipment | $150–$300/device | Return to store within 30 days |
Ebox costs approximately $40–$50 less per month than Videotron for comparable speeds. If you pay a cancellation fee, you typically break even within 1–2 months of savings on your new bill.
Ebox vs Videotron — why switch
Ebox is the most popular Videotron alternative in Quebec because it runs on the same Videotron cable network — the physical cable to your home is identical. The only difference is the monthly price.
| Plan | Videotron | Ebox | Monthly saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 Mbps | ~$75/mo | ~$40/mo | ~$35/mo |
| 500 Mbps | ~$95/mo | ~$55/mo | ~$40/mo |
| 1 Gbps | ~$120/mo | ~$70/mo | ~$50/mo |
| Equipment | ~$15/mo rental | Included free | $15+/mo |
| Contract | 2-year promo | None | — |
Prices approximate as of July 2026. Check each provider's website for current rates.
If you use a @videotron.ca or @videotron.qc.ca email address, switch to Gmail or Outlook before cancelling — you lose access after cancellation. Internet speeds and service are not affected when switching to Ebox.
How to return Videotron equipment
You have 30 days from your cancellation date to return any Videotron-rented equipment. Most customers need to return:
- Videotron modem (Helix Fi or older model)
- Videotron router / Wi-Fi pod (if rented, not purchased)
- TV boxes and remotes (if you had Helix TV)
Bring equipment to any Videotron retail store in Quebec. Find locations at videotron.com → Store locator. You do not need an appointment. Request a return receipt and keep it until your final bill is processed.
If you purchased a modem outright from Videotron (one-time fee on your bill), you keep it — no return needed. Only equipment on a monthly rental line item needs to be returned.
